Emergency Instructions

QUICK REFERENCE FOR TRINITY COLLEGE STAFF & FACULTY

 

In an emergency, contact: 91直播 Welcome Desk & Security

The Welcome Desk: is on duty 24 hours a day / 7 days a week; contacts members of the College’s Emergency Response Team; and coordinates with U of T Campus Police and other emergency services, as required.

Contact: 911 for Police & Ambulance
  • Trinity landline: dial 9, then 911
  • Then contact the Welcome Desk so the College is aware of the emergency and the location
Fire:
  • If you discover a FIRE, activate the pull station (FIRE ALARM) to sound the building’s evacuation alarm.
  • If the fire alarm is RINGING, the FIRE DEPARTMENT has already been notified and is on its way to campus. EVACUATE the building immediately.
CLOSURE DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

  • For everyone鈥檚 safety, it is critical to comply with these emergency procedures.
  • Advise anyone around you of the emergency situation and the required actions.
  • Visitors are also to follow the instructions of their host in the event of an emergency
Evacuation

When the fire alarm sounds:

  • Immediately leave your office/room
  • Close/lock door upon exiting building
  • Evacuate building through the nearest designated fire exit
  • Use stairs; do NOT use elevators
  • Assemble in a safe place away from building exits, such as along Hoskin Avenue, Devonshire Place or Philosopher鈥檚 Walk
  • Do not re-enter building until Toronto Emergency Services has given the 鈥淎ll Clear鈥

Emergency Building Closure

Movement in and out of a building is restricted. Do not leave the building for any reason. Additional instructions will be sent in these situations. Move to a secure location immediately (stay out of hallways, washrooms & common areas).

  • Lock door, close blinds & window coverings
  • Normal activity can usually continue inside the secure location, although modifications may be required
  • Do not move from your location until you receive official notification from Trinity (by email, 2-way radio, phone or in-person) that Toronto Emergency Services has given the 鈥淎ll Clear”

Lockdown

All movement in and out of a building is restricted. Do not leave the building for any reason. Additional instructions will be sent in these situations.

  • Immediately move to a secure location (stay out of hallways, washrooms & common areas)
  • Lock door, close blinds & cover windows, turn off lights
  • No sound and no movement
  • Do not move from your secure location until you receive official notification from Trinity (by email, 2-way radio, phone or in-person) that Toronto Emergency Services has given the 鈥淎ll Clear鈥

Other Emergency Situations: Hold & Secure and Shelter in Place

Likely initiated by Toronto Police Service or another emergency agency. Movement in and out of a building is restricted. Additional instructions will be sent in these situations.

  • HOLD & SECURE: Threat is likely in the local neighbourhood and not directly related to the College, University and/or its buildings(s)
  • SHELTER IN PLACE: Environmental risk is outside the building, e.g. severe weather or presence of contamination

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) & First Aid Stations (FAS)

Locations for Automated External Defibrillators (AED)

  • 91直播: 6 Hoskin Avenue 鈥 Located in the main foyer near the Welcome Desk 听(open 24/7), left of the water fountain.
  • St. Hilda’s College: 44 Devonshire Place 鈥 Located at the bottom of the main entrance stairs, right hand side.
  • Currently CLOSED: George Ignatieff Theatre (GIT) in Gerald Larkin Building: 15 Devonshire Place 鈥 FAS in GIT Booth & AED in Lobby (open during classes, special events and productions)

Communications during an Emergency

91直播鈥檚 Provost, or designate:

  • Acts as coordinator of the College鈥檚 Emergency Response Team
  • Initiates the College’s “Emergency Notification: Communications Tree”

Trinity鈥檚 Emergency Response Team and other designated staff have specific operational roles during an emergency.

How: Emergency notification is normally sent by email to affected members of the Trinity community. Some staff may be notified by 2-way radio, phone and/or in-person.

When: Notifications may be sent directly from the College or in follow-up and/or in coordination with a UTAlert notification. U of T students and some Trinity faculty & staff may receive UTAlerts directly from the University. UTAlert sends you urgent messages by text, phone & email: you can add or update your information at听.

Closure: Any notice regarding closure of 91直播 or any of its buildings will come from the College鈥檚 Provost鈥檚 Office.

Directions: Specific directions for Trinity students, faculty & staff and/or building-specific instructions will be sent as confirmed information becomes available.
