Community Wellness Coordinator

Appointment Type: Full-time, Fixed Term Contract (two-years), On site

Compensation: Job Band: 09N $66,224 – $95,363 Hiring Range: $66,224 – $79,469

91Ö±²¥ is a vibrant and diverse academic community with a rich history and an excellent local and international reputation. Since its founding in 1851, the College has valued and fostered a high level of academic achievement with some 2,400 currently registered students, 450 of whom live at the College. The 91Ö±²¥ campus grounds comprise spectacular historic buildings. The College is the smallest college on the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto, located in the central Toronto downtown core, steps from the Bloor St.
George subway station and Queen’s Park.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director, Community Wellness (DCW), the Community Wellness Coordinator (CWC) supports and expands 91Ö±²¥â€™s student-focused supports and programming initiatives. The CWC has three primary areas of focus: coordinating high impact, engaging student programming; providing one on one support to students; and delivering on call support within the residence community.

Working collaboratively with the DCW and the Office of the Dean of 91Ö±²¥, the CWC contributes to the delivery and expansion of student mental health, wellness, and crisis response services. The role includes providing one on one student support, participating in after hours on call residence support, living in residence to enable timely emergency response, developing and evaluating wellness programming, and recruiting, training, and supervising wellness student staff and volunteers to promote community wellbeing and student growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Engagement and Programming

  • Develops and manages the recruitment, interview and hiring process of student staff (wellness work study students) and volunteers (Mental Health Peer Advisors) in consultation with the Director, Community Wellness (DCW).
  • Oversees the 91Ö±²¥ Wellness Space.
  • Oversees online wellness and student life content and programming.
  • Develops, plans, and implements monthly programming and events (online, in-person, and passive) targeting health, mental health, wellness, equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, residence life and student life themes.

Community Support

  • Works one-on-one with students, advising students regarding personal difficulties and making the appropriate referral.
  • Provides individual on-going support and case-management to students in difficulty.
  • Holds student drop-in hours Monday to Friday.
  • Provides general supervision and support within the 91Ö±²¥ residences, including meeting with students to address minor level discipline, student behaviour issues, etc.
  • Conducts community outreach to enhance participation and engagement of priority groups (e.g. BIPOC and commuter students).
  • Facilitates safe, supportive, empowering, and welcoming spaces for students and community members to be actively involved.

Student Support and Crisis/Emergency Response

  • Participates in a 24-hour, emergency on-call rotation acting as a second-level responder. While on-call must always be within 20 minutes of Trinity campus, allowing for prompt in-person response.
  • Acts as the second-level responder, after the Academic Don, and support person for on-call emergencies or incidents in residence pertaining to the safety and well-being of Trinity students, in particular residence students
  • Provides mentorship and support to Academic Dons during on-call shifts, including guidance in responding to crisis situations and ensuring student safety and well-being.
  • Coordinates the provision of services and supports to students requiring immediate support outside of business hours.

Other

  • Maintains an active presence by living at the College, attending various programs, special events and eating several lunches in the Dining Halls each week, using provided staff meal plan.
  • Assists with the hiring and training of Academic Dons and Community Advisors.
  • Assists with the training of student leaders, including the Trinity student government and Orientation Leaders.
  • Assists with the planning and development of Orientation Week, and participates actively during Orientation Week.
  • While working as part of the team of staff within the Office of the Dean of 91Ö±²¥, helps to support the operational needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Attributes:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Graduate/professional degree or enrolment in a graduate/professional degree in a related field an asset.

Certifications:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR C is an asset;
  • ASIST training is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a residence life/housing setting as a first-tier responder (Don, Residence Assistant, etc.) is required; professional staff experience as a second-tier responder is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs designed to support student success in post-secondary educational institution.
  • Experience advising students in transition, including working with diverse student populations and an understanding of international student issue.
  • Experience supervising, training, and motivating student staff or volunteers.
  • Experience developing, planning and overseeing large-scale events.
  • Experience with student safety and first response management, critical intervention and triage.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint); experience with Star Rez or related systems is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, public speaking, conflict resolution and mediation.
